Felix Forrest, the London based Omega AR Operator, Steadicam operator, SteadiSeg Operator and MK-V AR Operator.  The MK-V Omega AR is the new name for the modified MK-V AR Revolution.

Felix Forrest, the London based UK MK-V AR, Omega (MK-V Ωmega), Fusion and Steadicam Operator.  Operating in 2D, Stereoscopic 3D and Holographic 3D worldwide for promos, idents, broadcast and feature films.

As if Steadicam isn’t heavy enough with the modern crop of digital cameras such as the Arri D21, RED ONE, the scarlet, the EPIC and the Alexa, times get really challenging when you mount up a 3D rig lke the P+S Technik Freestyle, or even with the Dark Country 3D mirror rig (similar to the Element Technica Rig or the Paradise FX Rig).  Flying a couple of SI-2Ks is certainly better than muscling a couple of REDs around.  All this can be helped with the addition of a SteadiSeg (otherwise known as a Handsfree-Transporter or Segway).  Clearly such additional equipment is not normally part of the standard inventory for a Steadicam operator.  Not even for an MK-V AR Revolution operator like Felix.  Just to be clear in both cases, Felix is one of a small number of owner operators who actually owns their own MK-V AR Revolution System (2 in the UK) and their own SteadiSeg (around four in the UK), so if you want an experienced operator with his own kit that he uses habitually, give Felix a call!.

Handsfree Transporter is an add-on/modification that provides for safe and easy “look-mum-no-hands“ operation of any Segway®. The Handsfree Transporter frees up the operators hands for camera operation, making it ideal for use by Steadicam™ operators.

Used alone, the Handsfree Transporter is a very effective tool that allows operators to ride instead of run. When a Handsfree Transporter is used with a Klassen HT Hardmount the cameras weight is transferred to the stabilised platform, making the operators job easier on the body.

Even handheld operators can safely use the Handsfree Transporter if used in conjunction with the Klassen HT Hardmount and Suspender.

The SteadiOp Handsfree Transporter

The Handsfree Transporter is very intuitive to use – simply leaning forward or backward controls fore-and-aft motion, while turning is easily controlled by foot pedals. The gyro-stabilised platform ensures a safe and stable platform.

The Handsfree Transporter is capable of speeds of 21 km/hr and is powered by rechargeable Li-ion battery. The XT version (off-road) can travel 15 km on a single charge, while the HT version can traverse up to 35 km. The load capacity is 105 kg.

Click here to see a video of an operator utilising this version (note this isn’t me!)  More details are available from Reinhard (the guy who made mine) here. Alternatively two new generations are available.  One from MK-V and the new generation SteadiSeg from Chris Fawcett.

The SteadiOp HT is available in both off-road or studio configurations and comes equipped with a durable flight case and charger cable.  Call or email to arrange to come and have a go and to discuss dry hire.
